Cyber Surgery is a company which has developed a robotic assistant for different spine surgeries. Its disruptive and highly innovative technology, already internationally patented, allows it to differentiate itself from its competitors. This platform is able to continuously position the patient by means of haptic tracking system, achieving the highest accuracy in surgeries and the possibility of performing them using minimally invasive techniques.
Currently, spine surgery is a complex practice. Most spine surgeries require spinal fusions, where the surgeon’s precision is of utmost importance as even the slightest error can result in spinal cord injury to the patient. Approximately 20% of the screws inserted in these surgeries are placed incorrectly and out of these, more than 2% have to undergo further surgery, with all the implications that this entails: cost, recovery for the patient, added time, etc. This need of optimizing these types of surgeries has led the company to develop its product.
The multifunctional robotic assistant allows surgeries to be performed in a more precise, safer and simpler way for the surgeon, which means a faster recovery for the patient by reducing costs at the same time. Therefore, Cyber Surgery achieves direct benefits not only for the surgeon, but also for the patient and society.
Leaving aside the company’s technology, Cyber Surgery’s team believes in values and uses them as a means to achieve its goals. Thanks to their effort, passion and transparency, they have managed to move from an R&D project to a commercial product. The company was founded in 2017 as a spinoff of Egile Corporation XXI and established its headquartered in San Sebastian (Spain). In 2018 the company was formed by 4 people and has grown up to 27 by the beginning of 2023.
The company is continuously growing, and the fact that they are always oriented to the surgeons and hearing from their needs, have made the project been able to jump up into clinical trials which have been successfully completed in a matter of just a few months. It is also intended to adapt this technology to extend the current spine application to other parts of the human body such as the brain, hip or knee. In this way, it can be the prelude to the robotization of operating theatres.
